3 Critical Tips for DIY Wall Frame Installation

If you are looking for an inexpensive way of decorating your new house, then installing wall frames might be just what you want to do. Wall frames add elegance to an otherwise bland-looking wall, and the best part is that the frames can be installed anywhere in the house. However, most people think that they need the services of a professional to install wall frames in their homes. While a professional might complete the work fast, you can make the project a DIY and all you'll need is a mitre saw, a nail gun, a tape measure and some paint. That said, there are a few tips that you can apply to ensure a successful DIY wall frame installation. Read on.

Keep Spacing Consistent -- If you already have a well-primed wall and it is time to mark where the wall frames go, you must keep the spacing above, below, and between the frames constant. For instance, if you are working on a small wall, then you can space out the frames at least 6.985 cm apart. The top and bottom spaces can be 7.62 cm. Therefore, regardless of the number of wall frames you use, the measurements must be the same all through. If you make the spacing bigger in some areas, the wall will look awkward, and you will not achieve the aesthetic value you want from the wall frames. Use a tape measure to get the correct measurements before nailing in the frames.

Align Wall Frames Parallel With Surrounding Elements -- When preparing to place the wall frames onto the wall, ensure that everything is well-aligned. Although using a level or plumb for this purpose might seem like a good idea, interior designers advise homeowners to use surrounding elements as a guide. For example, you can use a chair rail, a wall's corner, or even the door trim. The elements are usually straight and will, therefore, act as an excellent guide and eliminate the need for extra tools.

Apply Panel Adhesive, Hot Glue and Nails -- You can have a few big wall frames or many small wall frames. Whichever you choose, ensure that the structures hold permanently to the wall. Therefore, it is not enough to rely on just the panel adhesive or nails. You need to use both to ensure that the wall frames do not tumble down and hurt someone or damage your wall. The panel adhesive should be applied all around the frame, and you just need to dub the hot glue onto the corners. Once the frames are up, finish off the installation with a brad nailer to tack each frame to the wall.
